DDAT Learning Pack

Week 6

8.6.20

English

In English we are writing a good opening. Our focus text is 'The Children of Winter' which links to our Theme topic Peasants, Princes and Pestilence. We will be focusing on conjunctions and cohesive devises as part of our GPS.

Maths

This term we are focusing place value, addition and subtraction. We will be covering place value up to 6 digits, expanding on the previous learning from year 4.

Please ask your child's teacher how you can support your child's learning in Maths this term.

Theme

During Autumn 1 we will be discovering more about the 14th Century. We will be learning about how the Plague affected life for millions of people, the reign of King Richard II and the peasants revolt! We will look closely at our local area, as well as completing an art project based on Medieval illuminated letters.

PE

This year we have 2 PE slots each week on:

  • Monday (all year groups)
  • Tuesday (5QM)
  • Wednesday (5W and 5C)
  •

Can you please make sure earrings are not worn on these days. Your child should have their 'Team St James' t-shirt, dark shorts or leggings and trainers.

Children will need to come in their PE kits on these days.

Homework

This year we are focusing on 3 areas for home learning; reading, spellings and times tables. We expect the children to read everyday and bring in their reading records signed. Times tables are set on Times Table Rock Stars which the children can access using their own usernames and passwords. Spellings are set each week and are practiced every day in school.

Due to the Coronavirus risk, we are in the process of making work packs for the children if a school closure happens. These packs will support their current and future learning.

Please find copies of the work linked below.
