Welcome to Year 5!
Year 5 DDAT Learning Projects
Please find below the new DDAT Learning Projects for Year 5. A new project will be posted each week whilst the school is closed.
Remember to show us your learning using Class Dojo as we are missing teaching you! If you have any questions, please contact us through Class Dojo or phone the school directly.
In English we are writing explanation texts, using causal conjunctions and lots of little 'did you know?' boxes to make things interesting! In 5C we are thinking about how we can look after our planet, 5F are looking at life cycles and 5B are doing the digestive system!
Look out for some of the children's writing on class dojo! If you are not signed up as a parent, please ask your child's teacher.
This term we are focusing on multiplication and division, decimals, fractions and percentages. We use 'Power Maths' to explore these topics, and make sure to explore concrete, pictorial and abstract ways of thinking.
Please ask your child's teacher how you can support your child's learning in Maths this term.
During Spring 1 we are going on a quest to 'Alchemy Island'! We will be learning all about different geographical features, scavenging for gems and solving the riddle left to us by the mysterious alchemist. In Spring 2 we will be moving onto 'Allotments', looking at plant growth, wildlife and farming in the UK. We will have the opportunity to grow our own vegetables and look at what is important to consider when growing fresh food.
This year we have 2 PE slots each week on:
Can you please make sure earrings are not worn on these days. Your child should have their 'Team St James' t-shirt, dark shorts or leggings and trainers.
This year we are focusing on 3 areas for home learning; reading, spellings and times tables. We expect the children to read everyday and bring in their reading records signed. Times tables are set on Times Table Rock Stars which the children can access using their own usernames and passwords. Spellings are set each week and are practiced every day in school.
Due to the Coronavirus risk, we are in the process of making work packs for the children if a school closure happens. These packs will support their current and future learning.
Please find copies of the work linked below.
